Cuts to science agencies undermine hope for American health and economies聽

Feb. 15, 2025

The 麻豆传媒色情片 and 麻豆传媒色情片 Biology (ASBMB) condemns the administration’s move to fire thousands of researchers and staff across key agencies, including those underway at the National Institutes of Health.  Along with anticipated cuts to National Science Foundation researchers and staff, the elimination of vital workforce initiatives that support the scientific pipeline, and significant NIH funding cuts for research institutions announced earlier this week, this “reduction in force” will cause irreparable harm to the American research enterprise. Combined, the actions will severely undermine America’s global scientific leadership, damage local economies nationwide, and ultimately slow or stop the development of innovative treatments the American people desperately need.

We are all the beneficiaries of fundamental science, and we will all suffer the consequences of these destructive cuts. In communities all across the country, Americans know neighbors, family members, or friends who have been saved through treatments and therapies generated from new scientific knowledge.  Sadly, we also know someone for whom progress could not come fast enough.  These cuts are not just about science, or the dedicated researchers and staff employed by federal agencies; these cuts are weakening scientific innovation and ultimately, diminishing hope that American families rely on.

ASBMB and the scientific community will continue to be champions for the health, economic and scientific progress made possible through research. For Americans who are battling diseases today and for future generations, we urge national leaders to reinforce, not hobble, America’s research enterprise.
